Iranian Delegation Discusses Turkey-Iran Media Cooperation at RTÜK
Dr. Mohammad Hassan Habibuallah Zadeh, ambassador of Islamıc Republic of Iran to Turkey, Abbas Javadian in charge of Press and Public Diplomacy and the accompanying delegation met with Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) President Ebubekir Şahin. During the meeting possible media cooperation between the two countries was discussed.
While the main agenda of the meeting was cooperation in the fields of media monitoring and regulation, another important issue was the detection and joint fight against disinformation between the two countries. In this context, it was underlined that disinformation should be fought together and such news would not be allowed.
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin pointed out the exchange of information and experience in the field of media and communication will be an important milestone in terms of possible cooperation between the two countries.
Iranian delegation emphasized the similarities and differences between the two countries by particularly giving detailed information on media structure and control mechanism in Iran. Meanwhile RTÜK authorities shared information on RTÜK’s media regulations and activities in Turkey.
In its statement at the meeting, the Iranian delegation emphasized that Iran and Turkey are two important actors in both regional and international politics. Stating that the two countries historically have a relationship shaped on the axis of cooperation, the delegation said that the media plays a critical role in shaping this relationship. “The media is a tool that shapes and publicizes the foreign policy, trade relations and social interactions of both countries. In this context, it is of great importance to determine how the media covers Iran-Turkey relations.”
In the coming days, officials from the Inclusive Radio and Television Regulatory Authority (SATRA) of the Iranian Radio and Television Organization (IRIB) are also scheduled to pay a visit to RTÜK.
