Dr. Deniz GÜÇER, Member
Born in 1973, Deniz Güçer completed her high school education at Ankara High School. In 1995, she graduated from the Department of Journalism at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Communication. She began her professional career in 1992 at the Istanbul Regional Directorate of Anadolu Agency. In 1994, she started working at the Ankara bureau of Milliyet Newspaper. Following her tenure at Milliyet, she joined the founding team of Star Newspaper in 1999, where she served as a correspondent covering the presidency and parliament. She also wrote political columns under the title “The 551st Member of Parliament.”
In 2004, she moved to Vatan Newspaper and then to Akşam Newspaper, where she continued her work as a parliamentary correspondent, political columnist, and a producer of weekly political interviews. After the closure of the Ankara Bureau of Vatan Newspaper in 2014, she became the General Manager of TV6.
In 2016, she began serving as the Chief Advisor to the Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, overseeing media relations.
In 2015, she was elected as the first female president of the Radio and Television Journalists Association, one of Turkey's oldest professional organizations, and served in this role for two years. Throughout her career in journalism, she conducted interviews, wrote columns, and contributed numerous reports. She hosted programs such as Buradan Bakınca (From This Perspective), Meclis Taksi (Parliament Taxi), Basın Kulisi (Press Lobby), and Kravatsız Siyaset (Politics Without a Tie). Additionally, she wrote columns for the Etikhaber website and prepared and hosted programs on TRT News Radio, Radio 1, and Police Radio.
In 2009, she won the TGC Sedat Simavi Journalism Award for her report titled The First Lady at the Center published in Akşam Newspaper.
She authored a book titled Tips for Aspiring Parliamentarians on the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), published by Alfa Publishing.
In 2017, she was admitted to the Military History program at the Alparslan Defense Sciences Institute of the National Defense University for a Master’s degree. In 2020, she completed her thesis titled The National and International Reactions to the Turkish Army's Retreat to the East of the Sakarya River During the War of Independence and graduated.
In 2021, she was accepted as a Ph.D. student in the Military History program at the Alparslan Defense and National Security Institute of the National Defense University. In 2024, she completed her dissertation titled The Turkish-British Propaganda Battle During the National Struggle and became the first female graduate of the university’s Military History Ph.D. program.
She holds a permanent press card and is fluent in English.
Dr. Deniz Güçer currently serves as the Secretary General of the Black Sea Broadcasting Regulatory Authorities Forum (BRAF).
