Department Introduction
Article 37, Paragraph 1 of Law No. 6112 on the Establishment and Broadcasting Services of Radio and Television, under the section titled “Duties and Authorities,” assigns the responsibilities listed in subparagraphs (a), (b), (c), (ç), (d), (f), (g), (h), (j), and (s) to the Licensing and Allocations Department of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).
One of the fundamental tasks of the Supreme Council, which involves licensing media service providers and granting broadcasting licenses, as well as granting broadcast transmission rights to platform and infrastructure operators, is carried out by the Licensing and Allocations Department, one of the main service units of the Supreme Council.
In addition to its primary responsibilities of licensing and granting broadcast transmission rights, the Licensing and Allocations Department handles other tasks such as the procedures related to television channel and radio frequency planning in the national frequency plan, determining the administrative, financial, and technical requirements for granting broadcasting licenses/permissions and transmission rights, overseeing the compliance of broadcasting organizations in this regard, and applying necessary sanctions or canceling broadcasting licenses/broadcast transmission rights in case of violations. The Department also undertakes the determination of broadcasting license and transmission rights fees, as well as the television channel and radio frequency usage fees, and other tasks assigned to it by laws and regulations.
