ANNOUNCEMENT
For the public’s information,
The sanction decisions taken at the meeting of the Radio and Television Supreme Council on 06.04.2022 were reflected differently to the public by some social media users and some press and media organs, and whereupon the Supreme Council was exposed to unacceptable accusations and both the Council and some of its Members were unfairly lynched on social media.
RTÜK sees children as a red line. Therefore, many decisions in this perspective have been taken up until now and implemented in the Supreme Council for the best interests of children.
To underline it with bold lines, the decision taken yesterday in the Supreme Council is for 3 media organizations which have violated the broadcast bans issued by the judicial authorities. The penalties given are not related to bringing the sad event to the agenda, but to ignoring the broadcasting bans given by the courts and which are legally obliged to comply.
Halk TV 7 times, KRT 22 times and Tele1 3 times violated the broadcast ban imposed by Erzurum 4th High Criminal Court and Erzurum 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace regarding the incident in Palandöken. The legal duty of RTÜK is to announce the broadcasting bans given by the courts and to impose sanctions in case of possible violations. The content of the decisions taken at the last RTÜK meeting consists of this.
We wish that all relevant evaluations should be made by knowing this fact, and we strongly remind you that RTÜK, which fights fiercely with broadcast content that will harm the mental and physical development of children and young people, must not be subjected to slander and perception operations.
We have not bowed down to organized networks targeting RTÜK members and employees until today , and we will never bow down forever.
